Age Profile
The percentage of apprentices aged 25 and over in 20010/11 was 55% as opposed to 54% in 2006/07. This is primarily a reflection of the demands from employers and labour market conditions, at a time when employers were required to upskill their workforce to gain a competitive advantage in the market place.
Gender Spilt
Currently, the gender split of the apprentice learning programmes for 2010/11 is 17,365 men and 22,235 females as apposed to the figures for 2006/07, indicating 23,940 males and 29,225 females.

Framework Success Rates
Over the last few years apprenticeship learning programme numbers have fallen from 53,165 in 2006/07 to 39,600 in 2010/11. This is primarily due to the increase in the quality and range of apprentices in Wales and improved success rates; 80% of leavers in 2009/10 achieved a full apprenticeship certificate. This means apprentices stay in learning longer, obtain a range of skills and a fuller set of qualifications that meets needs of employers and the aspirations of apprentices, whatever their age. During 2010/2011 the overall framework success rate has improved even further to 82%.
